I love the holidays. The time from Thanksgiving to New Years is my favorite part of the year. Spending time with the people who love and understand you for who you are is an indispensable part of my life. I was apprehensive of spending the entire season away from home, but we’ve found making friends in the overland community to be incredibly easy.
Although momentous, loading day was fairly un-eventful, just the way you want it to be. It was a bit emotional to see each of our homes stuffed away into dark containers. One by one we went from overlanders to backpackers, standing next to our small piles of essentials looking just a little lost without our rigs.
I don’t think we wanted to like Costa Rica. Despite it being a wonderland of beaches, wildlife, and mountains, we thought it seemed like a tourist trap. We knew people who had spent months of their trip in this small country and we also knew that it was one of the most expensive countries we would encounter. But after getting out of the big city of San Jose and started to really explore the country we couldn’t help but like it.
