I have a problem with free time... the first step is admitting it, right? The idea that I was about to enter a bright, shining abyss of no alarm clocks, no responsibilities, and no timelines was just too much for me. I couldn't be content to just drive off into the sunset for three years of blissful freedom... no I had to commit to participate in a Rally that would take over the first two weeks of our trip and would require all of my free time for the next two months to prep... Yep, I have a problem.
Now that I've admitted it, I can say I'm really excited!! The Rebelly Rally is a first of its kind event (one of the reasons I couldn't resist competing this year). It is a No GPS, compass/map only rally race for teams of 2 women, across 2000km of back country from Lake Tahoe to San Diego. The Rallye Aicha des Gazelles which takes place in the deserts of Morocco and also features all-women teams, was the major inspiration for this race. The race is all about precision, not speed, and the way to win is by having the least km's driven, not the best team. I'll be competing with a teammate that I found through the race who is from AZ and has a bad-ass Jeep. I wouldn't be surprised if we win this whole thing... ok, actually I would be really surprised, there are some LEGIT girls competing, but it should be seriously fun!
If you want to know more about the race, check out the Rebelle Rally website or visit their Facebook page. The race goes from October 15-21st and there will be a webcast where you will be able to watch us drive slowly across the desert for 7 days. :) If you are interested in sponsorships or to donate to our team in exchange for some sweet race swag (or Running From Monday swag if you prefer), we might be able to make that happen.
